Tribal sculpture : A companion volume to “Adornment”, which was also based on a Barbier-Mueller collection, this work contains 295 colour photographs of the celebrated collection of primitive sculpture housed by the Barbier-Mueller Museum, Geneva. The collection contains work from Africa, South-East Asia and the Pacific, and includes almost every known genre: shields, masks, headpieces, drums, bronzes, ancestor images, and religious idols. The accompanying text analyzes and describes the objects, and discusses in more general terms the practice of sculpture throughout history.
